Bug tracking and task management features
Bugs Manager contains a number of features that make bug
tracking, issue
reporting, and task management more productive and flexible. Here
is a list of some of them. For a detailed description of all the
many features included in Bugs Manager, please download the Bugs
Manager User Guide.
System Setup
-
Nothing to install on the Web server. All you need to do is transfer a directory containing all Bugs Manager
files to your server via FTP.
- Bugs Manager includes an intuitive, Wizard-style setup
utility that will guide you step by step through the
process of getting Bugs Manager up and running on your
Web site. Among other things, the Wizard performs a
number of checks on your Web server (e.g. is the database
connection string valid? Have folder permissions been
setup correctly?).
- Seamlessly integrate Bugs Manager with your existing
Web site design.
- Easily configure all system settings using your browser.
- Manage the Bugs Manager project management system
through a password protected, intuitive Control Panel.
- Support for multiple database connections (DSN and
DSN-less).
- Support for multiple e-mail components (CDONTS, JMail,
Persist ASP Mail, ServerObjects ASP, Mail Bamboo SMTP).
- Free support and updates.
- User Guide.
Project
Management & Bug Tracking
- Add unlimited projects to the system.
- For each project, specify: name, description, start date, end date,
status (e.g. completed, delayed, in progress, etc.).
- Create up 5 custom fields to hold information that's specific to the feedback that will be added to your projects. Make each custom field required or not, and set it up either an an input field or a drop-down menu.
- Easily assign users to a new project, or reassign users among existing
projects.
- Assign a project manager to a project.
- Remove a project from the system without deleting it, by
making it inactive.
- Obtain project-specific reports on the status of all project issues.
- View and print printer-friendly project reports.
- User Management
- Create unlimited system users
- Bugs Manager supports 3 user levels:
- System administrator. The system administrator
has access to all system features, including the Control
Panel to manage the system. The
system administrator can act as project manager for all
projects. The administrator can edit and delete any feedback
posted to the system by any other user.
- Project Manager. The project manager has administrator
access to the projects to which he/she has been assigned.
However, project managers do not have access to projects
that they are not part of, nor to the Bugs Manager Control
Panel. A user can be a Project Manager for one or more
projects, and a Team Member for other projects.
- Team Members. Team Members have access
only to the projects to which they have been assigned.
They can add and read postings within those projects,
upload files, and more.
Adding Feedback for a Project
- Users can only add feedback for projects to which they
have been assigned. They do not see, and therefore cannot
add feedback for, projects that they are not part of. The
administrator sees all projects
and
can
add postings to any of them.
- Team members can edit previously added postings, but
only if they had submitted them. Project managers and
administrators can edit or delete any postings.
- Users can enter the following information when adding feedback
to a project:
- Project to which the posting applies
- Type of feedback (e.g. bug, new feature, etc.). The
type of feedback is selected from a drop down menu that
is populated with entries added by the system administrator
using Bugs Manager's Control Panel.
- Priority (e.g. high, low, to be determined, etc.).
The priority is selected from a drop
down menu that
is populated with entries added by the system administrator
using Bugs Manager's Control Panel.
- Assignment. This is the team member
the task is assigned to. This is feature is ONLY available
to
the system administrator
and the
project manager. Team members cannot set and/or edit
the task assignment. The user to which the task has
been assigned is notified via e-mail of the assignment.
The e-mail contains a link that takes the user back to
the system for more details on the assigned task.
- Deadline. This is the date before
which the task should be completed. This is feature is
ONLY available
to the
system
administrator
and the
project manager. Team members cannot set and/or edit
a deadline for a task. When a task is passed the due
date, a warning message is shown on the project details
page next to that task.
- Custom fields (up to 5). This are extra fields that can contain information that's specific to the kind of feedback that will be added to your projects (e.g. Issue found on, Issued fixed on, etc.). You can set each custom field to be required or not. You can set each field to be either an input field or a drop down menu of pre-configured selectable options.
- Short description. This is the posting title.
- Long description. The description
field supports HTML tags. A built-in HTML editor makes
it easy for anyone
to enter formatted content.
- Attached files. Bugs Manager allows
users to associate files with a posting (e.g. an
image, a text document, etc.). Files can be easily
uploaded from within Bugs Manager. More than one
file can be associated with any posting.
Searching
for specific feedback
- Users can search any project that they are involved with
for specific feedback that was previously added to the project.
- Search results are displayed in the same, organized way
in which project feedback is shown on the project details
page.
- A printer-friendly version of the search results page allows users
to effectively print out notes that can be used for meetings
or other purposes.
- When you leave a search to view details about one of the tasks found, you can then easily return to the search results, without having to perform the search again.
- The following search fields are available:
- Project. Users can select any of the projects that they are
involved with, or search across all of them.
- Status. For example, the user could search for all "Open" or
"Pending" issues.
- Submitted by. The user that originally submitted this feedback.
- Assigned to. The user to which the task was assigned.
- Feedback ID. If the user knows exactly which issue to track
down, the issue ID can be entered here. This is an especially
useful filter when companies are managing a large number
of projects and/or issues or tasks for each project.
- Keywords. Bugs Manager looks for matching keywords in the description
fields.
- Submitted between ... and. These date filters allow the user
to narrow down the search to a specific period of time.
